Hello there! In this blog I will share three 100% natural homemade products for overall nourishment of hair. It includes a shampoo, a conditioner and hair oil.
What's amazing is that these products are more economical and last longer than the other commercial products.
In effectiveness they stand toe to toe with the best hair care products and also they are so effortless that any of us can make them easily.
3 Natural Hair Care Products that You Must Try (Homemade)
1. Shampoo
The purpose of using a shampoo is to remove dirt, dead skin cells, excess oil and sweat from the scalp. The problem with today's commercial products is that they are packed with so many harmful chemicals that damage hair in the long run. These chemicals may lead to myriad hair issues like hair fall, grey hair, split ends, dandruff, frizzy hair etc.
Well there is one natural product that is capable of doing everything that a shampoo is supposed to do without any side effects , in fact it nourishes them.
It is a soap nut. Familiarly known as Reetha. Mother nature's this wonder fruit is a perfect hair cleanser. It contains vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, antibacterial properties as well as it is gentle on hair. Due to this nutrient rich profile, it renders the hair naturally strong and shiny.
To use it, you just need dried soap nuts Which you can easily find offline on any provisional store. Now add them into a grinder and turn them into a powder. No need to deseed them, soak them or boil them. Just grind them and make a powder. Now just collect this powder in an airtight container and here your natural hair cleanser is ready.
Keep this container in your washroom and also keep a bowl in your washroom. Every time you need to clean your hair, just take some of this Reetha powder, add some water and mix it with bare hands. You can use this as a normal shampoo, the only difference is that it won't give as much lather as a commercial shampoo.
Today's marketing system has brainwashed us as we judge a shampoo on the basis of how much lather it produces. As a result brands started adding more and more cheap toxic sulphate rather than actually healing the hair.
The beauty of Reetha powder is that it removes all the excess oil from the hair and makes them aptly dry after the wash. If you stick to this remedy to wash your hair, be sure that you have taken a major step to eradicate problems like hair fall, dandruff, scalp itching, premature grey hair or split ends. Yes it's that effective.
To make it more nourishing, you can also add an equal amount of dry Amla and Shikakai which are also equally priced and follow the same process. You can add these two ingredients with your choice but no doubt Reetha powder alone is enough.
If we compare this natural hair cleanser with other commercial hair cleansers, it is one fourth of their pricing and gives you better hair treatment with no side effects. It is totally worth a switch. Try it out and say hello to healthy hair.

2. Hair conditioner
Your hair needs conditioning to smoothen hair cuticles, add volume and reduce hair thinning but you don't need a hair conditioner. Yes we should understand that every oil has capability to condition the hair similar to using a moisturizer after face wash. So if you use hair oil, you can totally skip the hair conditioner.
However if you want to use a hair conditioner, go for a 100% pure hair conditioner.
Aloe vera gel is a good option for hair conditioning. Curd is among the best hair conditioners which is not just oily but also has sufficient protein and probiotics. It strengthens the hair follicles and softens the hair.
Apart from applying oil, if you just once in a week, apply curd on your hair and wash it with Reetha powder, your hair would be properly conditioned.
Buttermilk and whey water have been used to wash hairs for a long. They both are two in one, Shampoo as well as conditioner.
3. Hair oil
Finally, let's make hair oil. Not just any other hair oil but we will make homemade onion hair oil.
Main purpose of hair oil is to reduce wear and tear, strengthen hair roots, prevent hair damage and reduce hair dryness. Using an onion hair oil is a step ahead as it effectively promotes hair growth, nourishes the scalp, treats dandruff, prevents grey hair, conditions hair and fights lice infestation.
This is why many brands have launched their own onion hair oils. These commercial hair oils are high in cost, low in onion concentration and add many harmful chemicals like artificial fragrances, synthetic colours, chemical preservatives and mineral oil. Such hair oils create problems instead of solving the hair issues.
So why not make an authentic red onion hair oil which is easy to make, economical, effective and requires just two ingredients: Onion and cold pressed sesame oil.
First, finely chop four medium sized onions. Turn on the flame and put a Kadhai over it. Now add 500 ml of cold pressed sesame oil into it.
If you want, you can change the base of the oil to mustard oil or coconut oil. Just make sure these oils are cold pressed and not the regular ones which are of low grade. The reason for using sesame oil is that it is highly medicinal and suited to almost all hair types.
Now add the freshly chopped onions into it. Ensure that the flame is on low. Now just cook the onions for about 20 minutes. You will notice that the oil is turning dark. Now turn off the flame, cover it with the lid and let it sit for 4 hours.
The oil will get cool, the medicinal properties of onion will seep into the oil. Now strain the oil into a glass bottle and it is ready to use for 6 months.
When using, just rub it between your hands to give it heat and then gently apply onto your hair in a circular way. Made using a cold pressed base oil, fresh onions in proper quantity without any fillers or additives, it is real red onion hair oil that your hair deserves. And the price again is one fourth of the commercial hair oils.
