Simple Ways to Overcome Depression

Hey there I'm here with the most common and most demanding article. Yes, today I will share some ideas to overcome depression without medications.

Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain but it is more dangerous and difficult to tolerate. Depression can hit at any stage. However according to WHO one out of every five persons in India may be suffering from depression but there is nothing to be ashamed ofe of life.  Even the brightest of the people who always look so happy battled depression in their life at some point but they overcame it with their will and determination and so can you.

In this article I will suggest to you what exactly you can do to overcome depression or mental illness as soon as possible.

What is depression?

Modern studies suggest that depression is prolonged sadness for over 2-3 weeks. Depression is not just about sadness but it is about emptiness and misery. One just does not feel the depression but he suffers from it. Depression feels as if you have fallen into a bottomless pit and see no hope of light out of it.

The very first step is to decide to overcome this illness. No matter how worse your depression is, just bring some discipline into your life and it will surely be cured.

Simple Ways to Overcome Depression

1. Connect with the 5 elements

We all are made with 5 the 5 elements: water (72%), air (6%), earth (12%), fire (4%) and the rest is space (Akash). In today's  fast and busy life, we have lost connection with them and as a result diseases are arising. If you start getting connected to them, you will experience happiness as never before. Let us get closer to them one by one.

The water element

Remember, just after taking a bath, how instantly you feel relaxed and happy. This is because you come in contact with the fundamental element "water" that our body consists of 72%. So if you feel a little low or sad , just do not miss out bathing daily or adding swimming kind of activity in your daily routine.

Even modern studies also suggest that water has memory. Even just looking at the water with the feeling of gratitude before drinking it works magically to your mental health.

The Earth element

To stay closer to the earth element, walk barefoot on the mud, start gardening and spend time with nature. These activities will work well within your system.

Have you ever seen a kid playing with mud and how happy he feels while doing it?

It is because he is connected to his existence.

The Fire element

Do you ever notice why you feel a little low during the winters?

It is because of the lack of sunlight. Modern research shows that our body produces more mood lifting chemicals on sunny days than on normal days.

So I recommend you to be under the divine Sun if you want to overcome depression. Ideally every morning, greet the sun. You can also be in contact with fire by sitting before a bonfire.

In a room, you can also practise Trataka with a candle. Simply keep the flame at a distance of 3 feet from you and watch it constantly without blinking. Just practice for 10 minutes. The effects of this are magical.

When you suffer from depression, your mind is more open to do activities like this and they are truly life changing.

The Air element

Instead of being in closed doors, move out. Let your body be in contact with air. You can go for a morning walk every morning and let the fresh air touch your skin directly. Every morning, at  least for 15 minutes, practice breathing exercises.

Start with deep breathing. Deep breathing instantly sends calming signals to the brain. Then You may include Anulom Vilom, Kapalbhati and Bhramri with each practising for 5-5 minutes. Doing these three breathing exercises just for 5 minute will change the direction of your day completely adding positive vibes and internal happiness.

The Akash (Space) element

The Akas element is the subtlest of all elements but has the major impact. Do you notice how musical vibrations make us happy or sad instantly?

That's the power of the Akash element. So do exactly this. Listen to some instrumental and soothing music like classical music whenever you get time. It will instantly lift your mood up.

2. Eat right

If you eat right, it generates enough neurotransmitters to totally discard the need of antidepressants. If you eat freshly prepared home food and avoid junk food completely, it will work great to overcome depression.

3. Meditation

Every day you must practise meditation for at least 10 minutes. I can't stress how effective it is. Just sit in a comfortable posture with your back straight. Just focus on your breathing. Watch your breath going in and out. Thoughts will come but they will pass. Just keep watching over your breaths.

Modern research shows that meditation changes the nerve fibres in the brain making them easier to cope up with mental issues.

4. Stay away from negative vibrations

I firmly believe that staying away from the negative vibration can solve half of the problem easily. Just keep negativity away from yourself as much as possible. Instead, welcome positivity.

Waking up early in the morning is the best way to start your day in a positive manner. Even a person who has a good mindset may feel a little negative while waking up late, imagine how it would affect a depressed person.

Morning may seem to be the most difficult time for a depressed person that is waking back into all the scary feelings of sadness. But do it for your own sake.

5. Avoid antidepressants

Anyway antidepressants are not the solution. Even modern studies confirm it. They just put your mind and body into deep sleep and also come with a lot of side effects. You should avoid antidepressants until you are in an extreme case of severe depression.

6. Nourish your mind

There are some practices that if you do daily, will fill you with positivity. It is like cleansing your mind.

Massage your body

Massage your body daily. It increases the blood flow and calms the mind.

Daily Exercise

Daily exercise of some form produces feel good hormones and makes you feel happy.

Visit a place of worship

I firmly believe that visiting a place of worship helps a lot. The positive vibrations around them give a calming effect at the deepest level.

Blurt it out

If you feel like it, you can also stand in front of a mirror and blurt out whatever is going on in your mind. It will help you a lot to release all your negative thoughts from your mind.

Read books

You can try reading inspiring books to build your motivation again. By doing so, you will realise that there is a larger purpose in life.

Watch or listen to great personalities

Listening or watching to some great personalities not just motivates you but also shows you the path of living positively and acceptance.

Massage your head

If I suggest you one Ayurvedic herb that is most effective in treating depression and anxiety issues, it's Brahmi. So to get the benefits of it , just massage your head with Brahmi oil before sleeping.
