India rituals have many scientific logic behind them which are expressed in metaphoric ways which were easy to understand and later taken as superstitions. So let us burst the superstitions and gain some true facts about ancient Indian rituals.
1. Hiccups
Being an Indian You must have heard that if you have hiccups, someone is thinking about you. Instead of taking it as superstition we should appreciate this smart way to divert the mind so that hiccups stop soon.
2. Coin in water
You often hear this tradition of throwing coins into the wells. Our ancient coins were made up of copper which helps water to get purified and more nutritious. Our river banks and wells have a rich amount of impurities which can be moderated by throwing copper coins in large quantities. So it is also a smart way to keep water clean. The coins we use today are not made up of copper so it is not worth throwing the coins into the water but what we can do is to drink water kept in copper utensils every morning.
3. Curd and sugar before exams
Eating curd with sugar before exams is a very common tradition in every Indian home. It seems a great superstition to many students but there is a smart logic behind it. Curd with sugar has its own cooling and calming effects which makes you more focused during exams. It also increases glucose level in your body which makes you more energetic . So next time you need a good sweet to boost your energy, go for curd and sugar, it is easily available as well as more beneficial.
4. Shagun rupee ends with 1
You must have seen that whenever you visit a temple or start any auspicious work, you offer the amount which ends with 1 i.e. 101,51 or 11. The amount which ends with 0 shows the end of any event but the number ending with 1 symbolizes the beginning . This is the reason we offer the amount which ends with digit 1.
5. Fast
Fasting is now very trendy as our scientists have found many benefits of it. Our Indian texts have described these benefits a long time ago . Fasting is a type of refreshment of the human body which promotes immunity, digestion and also reduces chances of cancer.

6. Lemon and chillies hanging on trucks or cars
Where this tradition is taken as superstition, it is a smart way to keep the environment purified and repel mosquitos. Our ancestors also used to take lime and chillies with themselves whenever they used to go for long trips. Because lime juice is the best drink to keep one hydrated during long trips and chilies were used to check poison in the body so that they could ensure any insect bite is poisonous or not. Snake or any other poisonous animal bites damages the nerves and due to taste nerve damage, one can not taste the chilli. So it is a smart way to check if one has poison in his body or not.
7. Offering water to the sun
This tradition is almost eliminated in today's era but it also has a smart logic to start your day with more focus and calmness. Whenever you offer water to the sun , the sunlight ,due to water film ,gets divided into its 7 colours which is beneficial for the human body. It makes one more energetic, focused and calm.
8. Lord Gnehsa visarjana
Lord Gnesha visarjana has its own symbolic meaning. It shows that human life is not permanent, everyone in this world will has to die one day . Visarjna shows that you need to wash all your ego along with the visarjana. The Gnesha statue (murti) were made up of turmeric or soil which was helpful to make rivers clean .So it was also a smart way to keep rivers clean as well as to keep human beings calm , free of ego and down to earth.
9. Feet with books
Books are the things which give us knowledge and make us grow. Feet are considered to be the most dirty part of the human body as it is used to walk anywhere. So for giving respect to the books which makes us grow, this tradition was made. It shows that Indian traditions were full of respect, cleanliness and welfare.
10. Tulsi (Holy basil )is considered as a sacred plant
Tulsi is the plant which you can find easily in every Indian home. Have you ever thought why Tulsi is called sacred ?..It is because Tulsi has many properties like natural purifier, immunity booster, antibiotic and good fragrance. It also has many medicinal properties which were found by our scientists. Tulsi also repels mosquitos and gives benefits to regulate blood pressure. This is the reason why Tulsi is considered to be holy.
11. Peepal tree (Ficus tree) worship
Peepal due to its dense structure, gives oxygen in high amounts. This is the reason we worship the peepal tree to spend some time near this tree to maintain a healthy level of oxygen in the body. Women are advised to walk around the peepal tree because it helps to maintain idol hormonal balance which makes conception easy. Our scientists also discovered many medicinal uses of the various parts of the peepal tree.
12. Tilak
Tilak is applied on the spot that lies between our eyebrows which is also known as Ajna Chakra. It consumes the subtle energy of the body which makes one more focused on the work. The Tilak is made up of turmeric, saffron and sandalwood which is the best combination to apply with water on the Ajna Chakra.
13. Yagna
Yagna is the exercise of burning Ghee and herbs to ashes. It is the most sophisticated way to purify the environment and also it is beneficial for our nerve system.
14. Camphor burning in the worship
Camphor burn has its symbolic meaning which shows the burning of the human ego. Camphor burn also purifies the environment and leaves nothing behind . It is a great way to keep human ego free and purify the environment.
15. Never sleep, keep heading north
You must have been scolded for sleeping in this direction. aren't you?...It is because sleeping towards the north can damage your health due to earth's magnetic pull on the iron present in the human body. So avoid keeping your head pointing towards the north . East is considered to be the best direction to sleep.
